Doris Emily Bedford Gerlat, age 96, of Lakewood, Ohio, passed away Aug. 21, 2022.
Born Oct. 2, 1925, Doris grew up in Berea and graduated in 1943 from Berea High. She was a lifelong resident of northeast Ohio, living her adult life in west Cleveland and later Lakewood, as a long-time resident of the Westerly.
She worked as an outreach worker for many years, with the city of Cleveland Mayor's Commission on Aging and Senior Citizen Resources (SCR).
Doris is survived by her son, Allan (Cheryl Eberhart), and daughter, Barbara Hout (Edward).
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Leonard; sisters Ethel Kostir and Betsey Grau; and brothers Lyle and Lester Bedford.
She was an aunt, a great aunt and a great, great aunt to many.
In addition to her family, Doris had numerous close friends that she valued greatly.
Doris enjoyed painting and created numerous artistic works in her lifetime.
She was generous with her time, volunteering to help the 16th Ward Republican Club, the Ohio University Mother's Club and Red Hat Roses, among other groups.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 4334 Pearl Road, Cleveland, on Sept. 2 from 6-8 p.m.
Her funeral service will be held Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2031 West 30th St., Cleveland. She was a devoted member of the church since 1954.
Entombment will follow at the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery Mausoleum in Cleveland.
