    1. [S251] Staff, Galion Inquirer, (Name: Galion Inquirer;), Obituary: Lower, Ethel M. Hout (Conner).
Ethel M. Hout Lower, age 82, of Mount Gilead, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017, at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.

On March 20, 1935, Ethel was born in Circleville, Ohio, one of three children of the late Eldon and Margie (Blevins) Conner. As a family, they moved to Galion, Ohio, in 1945, after WWII, where grew up on a farm and graduated from Galion High School in the class of 1952. She then furthered her education at the Ohio State University, earning her certificate of radiology degree in 1954.

After graduation, she worked at Marion General Hospital in radiology for several years, during which time she had her three beloved children: Karen, Bethanne and Grant.

Continuing her life's dedication to her profession, Ethel moved to Morrow County Hospital in Mount Gilead in 1962, where she was instrumental in starting the radiology department. As the department grew from one employee (Ethel) to twenty, she became the supervisor of this department. She also was proud to oversee the modernization of the department going from "one room to an 'up to date' high-tech" operation to better care for the needs of their patients. She retired from the hospital after thirty years and one day of service in 1992. Ethel was a member of American Association of Radiological Technicians for over 50 years.

Getting a second chance at love, Ethel married Clinton "Bud" Lower on August 3, 1973, at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Together they shared thirty-seven years of marriage. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2011.

Ethel was a faithful member of the Edison United Methodist Church, a church she deeply loved. Formerly, she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She also was an avid reader, many of which being "books of faith."

Ethel put it best when describing her feelings towards her family: "my family is my life. I love them so dearly." She also most especially loved their traveling adventures they shared together.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Karen (Brad) West of Mount Gilead, Bethanne (Owen Willis) Baer of Orlando, FL, and Grant (Carey) Hout of Middletown, OH; four grandchildren: Jeremie West, Kenneth (Rachel) West, Robert (Sylvia) Baer, and Allen (Margaret) Baer; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews…all of whom she "very much loved!"

Including her husband and parents, Ethel was preceded in death by two sisters: Polly Fairchild and Rebecca Carter.

Her family will greet friends from 9:30 - 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will follow there at 11 a.m., with Hospice Chaplain Jeff Slider officiating. Inurnment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
