    • She is the only daughter of Harry and Lucy Cassel. She attended the Germantown Friends school in Philadelphia. She had a very happy childhood, including summers spent on Capitol Island, Maine, despite being forbidden to see any movies at all. Dotty graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a major in French and a minor in Political Science. Upon her graduation, she went to France with the Experiment for International Living and had a wonderful time. After returning to the United States, she saved her money for another trip to Europe. She quit her job and embarked for Europe with her friend Alice. On-board the ship, she and Alice met Clem Lane and his friend Tim. She and Alice had learned to travel frugally and managed to spend six months traveling around Europe, where they kept bumping into Clem and Tim. Dotty returned to Pennsylvania and then, after a while, moved to Chicago. She lived at the YWCA while working at Booz Allen and Hamilton. She married Clem Lane in 1953 and they moved on to Woodbury, Minnesota. After a few years in Naperville, Illinois, they both retired back to Minnesota. Dotty raised fie children and suffered through the tragic loss of her oldest son, Stephen. She worked as a librarian in Woodbury, Minnesota and Naperville, Illinois. Dotty enjoys spending time on Capitol Island, Maine and likes to garden, listen to music, walk and read. She is a member of Great Books and Great Decisions. Dotty is active at the local wildlife center in Minnesota, where her bluebird monitoring has recently paid off in a major victory, five baby bluebirds. She enjoys family most of all. (July 2000)
