"Sharkie" Pistner, 88, of First Avenue, Johnsonburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 at Elk Haven Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Frederick and Florence (Weidert) Pistner. He married Ellen Rita (Bloam) on May 12, 1951, she preceded him in death in 2003. "Sharkie" was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He served as corporal in the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Armored Cavalry of the U.S. Army during WWII from 1946-1949. He worked at the Johnsonburg Paper Mill for 41 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he served as usher, the Johnsonburg VFW where he served many years on the burial detail and member of the Johnsonburg American Legion. He lived all his life in Johnsonburg. He is survived by one brother, Charles (Mary Jane) Pistner of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Marie Schifferle; and three brothers, Richard, Eugene and Lawrence Pistner. A Mass of Christian Burial for John L. "Sharkie" Pistner will be held Friday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father David Wilson as celebrant. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Ridgway Servicemen's Detail. Military members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Friday at 9:15 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 22 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 23 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg.
