      Hi Matthew,

Glad to hear that I answered too!!! Aunt Mary was born in 1892 and
her mother died soon afterwards!! Her mother had been married three
times that I have found and Mary was either her 12th or 13th child.
My grandmother was born in 1884 when the family was living in Story
County Iowa. They moved west to Boone County Iowa soon after my
grandmother was born. They farmed near the present Scared Heart
Cemetery in west Boone on what is today called Montana Street. I
remember my grandmother telling that they lived in a log cabin just
in front of and to the south of the cemetery.

My grandmother at the time was the eldest of the children of
Henrietta and John McNace, when her mother died after childbirth, my
grandmother had to quit school to take care of the kids. My great
grandfather decided that taking care of two little girls, a boy and a
baby was to much for my grandmother to do. So he contacted the local
Priest and asked him to find a good Catholic family to adopt the
little girl named Mary. Mary was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Prechtl and
grew up not knowing she was adopted!!! But then when she was in
high school someone found out and said something to her about being
adopted. She asked her parents and they told her she was adopted.
I'm not sure but think she was raised as a only child!!!

I'm going to skip now to 1955 when I was about 14 years of age and
had my appendix out at the Boone County Hospital!! I woke up in my
room and could see a lady in the bed next to me. Seems I thought she
was my grandmother!!! She kept telling me that I was mixed up
because of the surgery and that she wasn't my grandmother. About
this time the Dr. let my parents into the room and I remember telling
them that Grandmother Jay was in the bathroom and would be out
shortly!!! My parents had a fit, they knew that my grandmother was
in her apartment waiting for word about how I was doing!! Then Mary
came out of the bathroom and I introduced her to my parents. By this
time my mother had added two and two!!! She asked the woman what
her full name was? Sure enough she said Mary Burke and that she
lived on north Story Street in Boone. My mother asked her if she was
Catholic and she said yes!!! So my mother asked her if she was
adopted as a baby and she said yes!!! Well, by now you have guessed
that we had found our missing aunt!! My mother had heard all her
life about this missing aunt, seems my grandmother knew where her
sister was living and who she had married!! She didn't think Mary
knew she was adopted and didn't want to upset her by contacting her.

My mother phoned my grandmother to tell her that I was going to be
just fine and that I had found her missing sister!! So my Dad was
sent to pick up my grandmother and they a reunion right there in my
room.:):) They both knew of each other and had been afraid of
contacting one another. We all got together again several times in
the next two or three years before Mary died. I liked going to her
house, it was huge and two stories. My grandmother was raised
Catholic, but gave it up several years after marrying my grandfather.

Supposedly Mary's mother was born in England!! I have not been able
to prove this at all!!! She was Henrietta Davenport/Mclean/Hurst/
McNace. I know of three children by the first husband named James
McLean, they were married in Peoria, ILL in 1864, they had two boys
and one girl. William, Andrew, and I forget right now the girl's
name. William worked on the railroad as a engineer and farmed. He
married once and lived in the Dakotas. His wife drowned within
months of their marriage and he never remarried. He live for years
in Canada, even died there and is buried there. I hired a
genealogist to track him. I could tell you more about him if you
want, will have to look it up in my files. Andrew is one that I
think I have found in Calif in the 1930 census.

Mary's mother married a Charles Hurst in Boone, Iowa in 1875 and had
one son, named Charles. So far I have know idea what happened to the
first two husbands. She married my great- grandfather in 1880 in
Boone, Iowa. The child Charles Hurst is named in the census with
them. After she married John she had about seven more children that
I have tracked through census etc. Not all of these children lived
to adult hood. Charles disappeared, and so did a Frank McNace and a
Minnie McNace!!! I intend to look more for them the next time I'm in
Boone at the Boone County Court House.

My great-grandfather was John McNace and I was told my my grandmother
was born in Ireland!!! I don't know where in Ireland. I was there
two years ago and asked about the name, but no one seemed to
recognize it. A cousin of my mother's a McNace, seemed to think
County Roscommon, but so far can't be proved. John always said in
the census he was born in New York and Indiana!!! Henrietta said she
was born in New York!! I think I can prove this but then again who
      knows for sure.

Well, now that I have bored you or maybe wet your whistle, I have to
stop and walk my puppy. She is very demanding about her walks!!

Where do you live? I live in Casa Grande, AZ. I was born in Boone,
Boone County Iowa and still have a lot of relatives living there.
Keep in touch.:) I would like to have some help in tracking John
      and Henrietta.:):)
