GRIM REAPER TAKES ANOTHER OLD TIMER
In the passing of George Hout, Sr., last Sunday this community lost a citizen who had lived here for nearly 80 years and one who had taken a keen interest in the progress of the community during all these years.
He was born in Clearfield County, February 15, 1863, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hout. His parents moved to this county when he was a pre-school child and he had lived here until his death.
He was employed in the Hercules Powder Company and also in the Local Tannery. He was married to Margaret Brechtl [Prechtl] on January 14, 1889.
For the past three years he had been confined to a wheel chair but kept a cheerful outlook on life. Although and invalid, his death was sudden and unexpected.
He is survived by six children: Henry of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. William (Clara) Webster, Buffalo; Mrs. Floyd (Margaret) Specht, Kenvil, N.J.; Mrs. Ray (Mary) Housler, George Jr., Mrs. Thomas (Julia) Cleary, all of Emporium. Fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held this morning from St. Mark’s Church and interment made in St. Mark’s Cemetery.

Hi Matt,
To answer your question about Mary, the interment record just says she was buried in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, not if she is buried in lot 56. I found a few more tidbits for you in the birth records- St. Marys Catholic Church Birth records-
Haud- Peter born Jan 22, 1865 bapt. Feb. 2, 1865
Parents- Chas Haud – Mary Wegemer
Haut- Edward born May15, 1865 bapt. May 18, 1865
Parents- John Haut – Philomena Schreiber
I also called my cousin Mary Wegemer Miller today to see if she had any info to connect your Mary Wegemer Hout to her great-grandfather- Johann Wegemer (1817-1898). Seems she may be a sister of Johann. I am meeting her at the Historical Society on Tuesday to review her notes and info to see if we can make a connection. The father of Johann whos name was also Johann Wegemer died in St. Marys on Apr. 27, 1857 at age 78. Do you know anything else about Mary, were she was born in Germany? When they came to the US? Also if you want Charles Hout’s Obit. From the St. Marys paper I can send it to you, just let me know. Well that’s about it for now. I will let you know if I find anything out. Bill
