A funeral service celebrating the life of Harvey E. “Gene” Keyes, age 65, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will provide military honors.
Gene passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at his home with his family at his side. He was a son of the late Keith W. and Dorothy M. (Maxwell) Keyes.
Gene was a proud family man and devoted firefighter; firefighting was his life. He joined Madison Township Fire Department in 1972, serving as Fire Chief from 1978-1994.
Graduate of Licking Valley High School 1969. Gene began his career at the Newark Air Force Base Fire Department serving as Assistant Fire Chief from 1981-98. He worked at and retired from Wright Patterson Air Base Fire Department from 1998-2003 where he had been the Fire Chief.
He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and son-in-law, three granddaughters, two sisters, an aunt, mother-in-law, a niece, three step daughters and their husbands, step grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 11, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
