Mr. Owen Callahan, who we have reported as steadily failing from day to day, died at about 8:15 this morning. Mr. Callahan was 82 years of age last March and has been a resident of this county since 1873, when, with his large family of a wife and eleven children, he moved here from Lake County, Ill., and settled on a farm on Onion Creek. For the past fifteen years, however, he has resided in this city. He was a native of Ireland and came to this country with his parents just as he was entering upon manhood. This is the first death that has occurred in this family, and of the eleven children, nine are now in the city - Peter and Daniel having arrived from California a few days ago. The two absent ones are James and Charles, the former supposed to be in Alaska and the latter in Colorado or Arizona. Neither could be reached by wire or they would probably be here. The funeral will take place from the Catholic church at 10 a.m. on Monday and will be largely attended by the people of this city as a tribute of respect to a most highly esteemed citizen.
