Interment will be at Nashville Cemetery, Nashville Ohio. To leave a special message for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com. (SCHERMESSER - GREEN, 330-899-9107) Akron Beacon Journal - 20 October 2011 --- Richard Paul Glasgo , 48, lost his brave battle with cancer on October 18, 2011. Rick was born on May 23, 1963 in Akron to the late Betty and Paul Glasgo . Rick attended Voris Elementary School and was a two year member of the school safety patrol, where he reached the rank of Captain for his entire 6th grade year. While at Voris, he played football for two years for the Firestone Park Pee Wee Rams. He next attended Roswell Kent Jr. High, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He completed his education at Garfield High School, graduating with the Class of 1981. Rick was a hard worker all his life. His first job was at age 14 at his Dad's Sohio station in Firestone Park. He later worked for his brother Tom at the Brown and Waterloo Sohio during high school. In 1983 he started work at Gauer Rental, where he would remain for the rest of his life. He took on a second job in 1992 at night working for Hank Richards' Garage for 10 years. He followed that up with a night job at the Green Goodyear store for nine years. No one could question Rick's work ethic, for he worked many 14 hour days. Rick Glasgo was an original. His mother Betty always said that Rick was the cutest and orneriest kid of her four children. More than anything else though, a cool guy. A little bit of a showoff in his nice cars, but just the coolest guy you'd ever met. He could be reckless and wild, but he was also capable of being very caring, loving and responsible too. Rick loved and lost many times in his life. He married three times: to Gina, Karen and Christine. Happy days were also spent with Judy, Lori and Mary. With the arrival of his first son Paul, Rick saw the need for God in his children's lives. He joined the Arlington Church of the Nazarene and became much closer to God. Rick's favorite hobby was his love of cars. He was a car guy all his life, just like his Dad and brothers. Rick was a meticulous detailer and mechanic. He always had some of the nicest Pontiacs in Akron. From his first car, a 1972 Grand Prix, to the last 72 G.P., he owned many beautiful G.T.O.'s TransAms, G.P.'s and big Pontiacs. Diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in July 2010, Rick fought an incredible battle. He never complained, but just kept fighting in order to be there for his three sons that he loved so dearly. He showed an incredible will to live throughout the terrible ordeal. Hopefully his three boys never forget what a fighter their dad was, because he wanted so badly to beat his cancer so he could see them grow up. The Glasgo family wishes to express their gratitude to the Gauer Rental family for their incredible support of their longtime employee. Also, many thanks to Dr. Abramovich and all the dedicated nurses on the cancer floor at Akron City Hospital for their care and compassion in trying to save Rick. Rick was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Betty and Paul. He is survived by his three sons, Paul, Troy and Luke; sister, Linda Bruce; brothers, Tom (Judi) and Jeff (Karen) Glasgo ; nieces, Lisa (Donal) O'Rourke and Fran (Tony) Massoli; nephews, John (Bonnie) Glasgo , Paul (Jeanette) Glasgo and Don (Keri) Smith. He is also survived by his best friend of 35 years, Ben (Kathy) Plazo and many other great friends and relatives. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., Akron, OH 44319 (SR 619), with Pastor Darrell Frazier officiating. Dad was the antithesis of a handyman, so when Mother grew desperate for appliance repairs, Uncle Charley would come to the rescue. Uncle Charley and Aunt Mary stayed on the West Side. | 777 | ROLLED TO DEATH BY ENGINE PILOT Henry F. Corwin, [this is the way it appeared in the paper] Newburg Attorney, Victim of Grade Crossing Accidents. No Gates Nor Watchman Gave Warning of Approaching Train. Unwarned of the approach of a speeding passenger train by watchman, gates or signal lights, Henry T. Cowin, a prominent Newburg attorney of No. 1698 Harvard street, drove across the Rice avenue grade crossing of the Erie railroad last evening at dusk, to his death. The passenger train, an excursion from Youngstown to Cleveland, was coming up a grade to the crossing at the rate of forty miles and hour. The engine struck the buggy in which Cowin was driving squarely in the middle and it stuck fast to the pilot of the locomotive, Cowin was thrown out in front of the engine and the wrecked buggy, on the pilot, and his body was rolled and turned along the tracks. Finally the mangled form was tossed into the ditch by the side of the road, a distance of 500 feet from the crossing. Glazier's dead wagon was summoned and the body was taken to Glazier's undertaking rooms. The horse which Cowin was driving was uninjured. The harness was torn from its back, and frightened, it dashed away. An hour later it was caught in a cornfield munching grain. Cown had been studying hard for the past week, preparing for the case of Heeley et al. vs. the Pennsylvania Railroad Co., a land appropriation case. The suit was to have come to trail this morning in common pleas court. He decided to go for a drive yestersday afternoon for recreation. His wife and children, who usually went with him on drives of the sort, remained at home, because one of the children was indisposed. The indisposition of the child probably saved the entire family from being killed or injured. Henry Cowin was born in East Cleveland fifty-five years ago, but had lived in Newburg almost all of his life. After attending Oberlin college he studied law in the office of Judge Day, of Elyria. He was admitted to the bar about thirty-one years ago. He immediately began practice in a little office in Newburg. Farmers and his neighbors were his clients. His business grew year by year, until he had a large practice. He married Miss Fannie Buell of Warrensville twenty years ago. She and three children, Stewart, thirteen years old; Helen, eleven years old, and Marion, six years old, survive him. Cowin never mixed in politics; never joined and lodges or societies. His entire life seemed to be devoted to his work and family. He was know by almost everyone in Newburg and his death caused expressions of sorrow in almost every home. Rice avenue is one of the most traveled country roads running out of Cleveland. Yet the Erie has neither watchman, gates nor signal lights near the crossing. Citizens regard it as a dangerous place. Several accidents have occurred there. 24 Jul 1905, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, pg 1. --- Name: Cowin, Henry T.
